CFA Football League Volunteer of the Year Award 2010 Nominations
American Conference Volunteer of the Year
Sarah Snavely, Cedar Cliff Colts: On behalf of the Cedar Cliff Area Midget Football and Cheerleading Association, I would like to submit a nominee for 2010 CFA Volunteer of the Year, Sarah Snavely. Sarah is currently our Midget Cheerleading Head Coach and is in her first year in that position. Although she is just beginning as a coach, her experience and love of the sport has brought her directly to where she is. Sarah is also an assistant coach for the Cedar Cliff High School cheerleading program-a non-compensatory position-so as you might imagine, she is very dedicated to cheerleading. Some might think that it is a far less difficult task to coach Midget-aged children than it is to coach Smurf-aged children, and to an extent we might agree. Sarah, however, has made it a priority to give our midget cheerleaders the best possible instruction that she can, enlisting the help of some of the girls she coaches at the high school level and ensuring that the latest techniques and safety practices are passed down to the next generation of girls as well as assuring a smooth transition from youth/recreational cheerleading to the high school level. Week after week, our Midget cheerleaders are some of the best-prepared girls you will find in the area. Everyone who reads this is most likely a volunteer for one of the member-associations within the CFA Football League-so you most likely have an understanding of the time and effort required to keep things running smoothly. Sarah is no stranger to this time and effort, as she not only gives her time freely to our association, but also does so for the high school program and still finds time to keep her college studies in good standing and her work schedule in check. Even with all of this, Sarah has still managed to find the time to ensure that a high school cheerleader-who might have otherwise not been able to participate-received the special assistance she needed to continue to cheer. If not for Sarah, this young lady might not be involved with cheerleading and our association might not have the benefit of her assistance with our cheerleaders. It’s rare to have so much to say about the quantity of good someone has done for others at great personal sacrifice, and rarer still for those words to be said about someone with such a short tenure in their position. Sarah is a highly motivated individual whose efforts on a voluntary basis for this association, for this league, and for the sport of cheerleading are worthy of your recognition as Volunteer of the Year. Respectfully Submitted, Dawn Boring
Marsha Leonard, Cumberland Valley Eagles We are pleased to nominate Marsha Leonard for the Volunteer of the Year Award. We have known and worked with Marsha for ten years and have always found her dependable, efficient, and undoubtedly compassionate. In fact, it is a pleasure to work with a person who exudes as much attention to detail as she does. Also, her willingness to take on difficult projects and see them to successful completion has repeatedly impressed us over the years. Knowing that Marsha also has Rheumatoid Arthritis that she battles on a daily basis makes her that much more remarkable. She receives monthly injections that at times can make her very ill but she does not let that hold her down for more than a day. Her skills do not end with her secretarial duties. Marsha has run our concessions in previous years and continues to help at nearly all home games. She has also been a key part of our sponsorship campaigns and our annual program. She is usually one of the first to arrive on game day and last to leave. She truly pitches in wherever needed whether it is ordering clothing, planning our parent coach social, or picking up trash on the fields. She also projects a warm, cheerful attitude to our coaches, players, cheerleaders and parents. I have seen her resolve conflicts and handle other difficult situations with remarkable patience and admirable tact. In the community she goes out of her way to help anyone in need, whether it is listening, giving advice, cooking for others, or giving someone a ride. She loves people, works hard, and always tries to lift the spirits of those around her. We believe these characteristics represent all that is good in our organization, and we are pleased to nominate her for the honor of Volunteer of the Year. President: Timothy J. Cramer Sr.
National Conference Volunteer of the Year
Deborah Sharar, West Perry Mustangs: She has shown a dedication to the children in our community with the many hours she has taken to put together a wonderful concession area. She has done a lot of research on how to be as creative as possible. Week after week she has gone above & beyond the call of duty to make it all happen. Shopping, searching out sales, trying to offer a variety of healthy choices as well as the other choices we all enjoy at the concession stand. She is at practice early, leaves late. Is dedicated at all our home games setting up & helping to tear down. Initially she started out just being in charge of our practice field concession, just prior to our season our kitchen chairperson had to back out due to health issues so Deborah stepped up and took over both our practices and home game concessions.. She does this without complaining or wanting any type of recognition for what she has been doing. Her Children were in the program years ago.. Her Grandchildren were in the program a few years ago. She does not have any children or grandchildren of her own in the program. She is just doing this because it makes her feel useful and needed. We do not reimburse for gas or mileage and she is on a fixed income so she does a lot of this knowing that it is hard on her financially, but it means a lot to her to see the Players & Cheerleaders progress and become stronger individuals. Scott Riggs – President
Joe Dorman, Greenwood Buffaloes: GNMFA Buffaloes (Greenwood Newport Midget Football Association) would like to nominate Joe Dorman for the Commissioners Volunteer of the Year Award. Joe has been a volunteer with the organization for the past 5 five years. To Joe's compliment, he is a grandfather to three midget players and uncle to one pony cheerleader. Joe is the "Guy to go to". He is our head weigh master, leader in the maintenance of our field, "Grill Master" at our concession stand during our games, helps to keep our supplies filled, key person with the organization and administration of our fund raising, he is the first one on the field to set up for games and one of the last people on the field to clean up after the games, and above all, offers us sound advice and guidance to benefit our organization. He is well known among our parents and board members. Joe puts in a lot of personal time and we all know than if Joe is dong it, we are getting a job well done. Joe works hard to ensure that the children of our community have a safe and instructional environment to play and cheer the game of football. Joe is a "One Stop Volunteer" meaning that whatever it takes, nor matter what needs to be done, Joe is ready and willing to do the job.
One Volunteer will be elected from each Conference
